Ravana Sena edge Villianous Vampires in opening match of BCG Super League 4th edition

BCG Super League's 4th edition got of to a great start as the first match was a real close encounter as Ravana Sena beat Villanous Vampires by a narrow margin of 4 runs.

Put into bat first by Villanous Vampires, Ravana Sena managed to post a total of 98 runs for the loss of  9 wickets in 20 overs. Although the target of 99 runs set by Ravana Sena for their opponents looked really low for a 20 over game, some great and disciplined bowling efforts by the Ravana Sena bowlers ensured a thrilling victory for them by 4 runs.

Ravan Sena got off to a slow start on a pitch which never looked comfortable for batting, soon Ravana Sena lost their first wicket in the 4th over when T Velu was dismissed after scoring 5 runs. Ashik Jose, who started off slow suddenly tried shifting the gears as he managed to score a boundary and later after few balls sent one ball outside the ground for a six on the legside which was indeed the first six of the tournament. Soon he too was dismissed after scoring 16 runs and Ravana Sena was in trouble as they lost both their openers.

But Prashant and Nishant Tomar played very sensibly for the 3rd wicket and kept on the scoreboard ticking with some quick singles and doubles. Nishant Tomar was aggressive among the two as he hit 3 boundaries while Prashant ensured singles and doubles were converted. They added 43 runs for the 3rd wicket before Nishant was dismissed by Gopi Chinappa and this started off a batting collapse as Ravana Sena could only add 28 runs more to their total and also lost 6 wickets in the process. And thus a target of 99 was set for Villanous Vampires to chase.

The most succesful bowler for VV was Praveen Subramaniam as he managed to pick 5 wickets in the 4 overs he bowled and also gave away just 9 runs. Besides Praveen, Praney Thapa too had a good day with the bowl as he finished with figures of 2/11 in the 4 overs he bowled. Gopi Chinappa and Uday too picked up a wicket each.

Villanous Vampires got off to a worst possible start as they lost their skipper cum opening batsman Shankar and the other opener Purnendu by the time the team score of VV was 10 runs. The Ravana Sena opening bowlers Amith Kumar and Sadiq was very lethal as VV did not have any clue as what had to be done. Amith dismissed Shankar with a beauty while Sadiq picked up Purnendu by bowling a good length delivery. Later Shivakumar and Tarun gave some hopes to VV as they stitched a 41 runs patnership for the 4th wicket. But the introduction of T Velu into the bowling attack turned the game towards Ravana Sena as he picked Tarun and Shivakumar in quick successions and also picked up the wicket of Manjunath Udupa later. Soon Prashant joined the party as he too picked up 2 crucial wickets. In the last over VV needed 7 runs from 6 balls but Amit who returned to bowl the last over bowled some fine deliveries and VV managed only 3 runs of the last over and also lost 2 wickets in the process.

Prashant who scored 23 with the bat and ended up with a bowling figure of 2-24 was declared man of the match for his all-round effort.
