BSL 4: Sphinx Samaraveeras, Drakon Force and Assault Ayyannars enter MASTERS GROUP

Sphinx Samaraveeras, the side led by Dilip entered MASTERS GROUP with a second consecutive win against Griffin Warriors, courtesy a quickfire batting display by Lakshmi Kanth.

Due to delayed start, the match was cut short to 16 overs per side. Put into bat first Samaraveeras did not have a great start as they lost 3 wickets by the time team score was 12 runs. Two more wickets there after brought Lakshmi Kanth to the crease. He immediately changed gears and increased the scoring rate of Samaraveeras. He remained unbeaten on 38 runs of 20 balls at the end of Samaraveeras innings. His innings included 4 boundaries and 2 sixes. And at the end of 16 overs Samaraveeras score was 99 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. For Griffins, Nikhil Virupakshi was the star with ball as he picked 4 wickets in the 3 overs he bowled and gave just 12 runs. Griffin bowlers Niloy, Bhargav and Dhayalan picked up a wicket each.

Griffins on their chase of 100 runs started brilliantly. Athough Griffins opener Hrishikesh could not contribute much to the teams cause as he was dismissed very early, the other opener Nav Krishna was at his best and was scoring runs and boundaries at ease. He along with Nikhil Virupakshi put up a 32 run partnership for the 2 wicket and it seemed that the match was being taken away from Samaraveeras. Just when everything seemed going Griffins way Samaraveeras bowler Subhashish B struck by dismissing Nikhil Virupakshi. This was the turning point Samaraveeras just needed. Soon Nav Krishna too perished after scoring 33 from 27 balls. Soon Dilip introduced Chetan Krishna to the attack and he was on fire. He just bowled 9 deliveries and sent 5 Griffin batsmen back to the pavilion in quick time and they were all out for 65 runs. Chetan Krishna had the most impressive bowling figures for Samaraveeras as he finished with figures of 5-2 in 1.3 overs he bowled, he also had a maiden over to his credit. Subhashish B and Nikhil Sandeep picked up 2 wickets while left arm pacer Ankit picked up a wicket too. With this win Samaraveeras entered MASTERS GROUP while Griffins landed in the DO-OR-DIE GROUP.

Lakshmi Kanth was declared man of the match for his quickfire innings of 38 in 20 balls.

Kaushal steers DRAKON FORCE into Masters Group

Drakon Force lead by Lennold decided to field first after winning the toss in a match which was cut short to 18 overs per side because of delayed start. The loss in their previous match against Thundering Typhons had put them in a spot of bother as they needed to win it big against Thundering Typhons if they had to progress to Masters Group. And since they were chasing they had to get to the target set by TT's within 12.5 overs and thanks to a perfectly timed innings by Kaushal Mohan they achieved the target in 11.2 overs and ensured their entry to Masters Group.

Electing to field first, Drakon Force got off to the perfect start they needed as their opening bowler Kedar Kulkarni dismissed TT opener Rishab Krishna in the 1st over of the match. And Kedar struck once again in the last ball of the first over as he dismissed TT batsman Prasanna with a beauty of a delivery and reduced TT to 2 for 3. In the 2nd over TT lost their 3rd wicket when the Raman was dismissed by left arm pacer Ronson. TT was in a spot of bother and they needed a good partnership if they needed to gain some momentum in the game and thanks to Fahed and stand in skipper Adarsh they found the partnership they needed badly. Both started slowly and cautiously, but later on Fahed changed gears and started attacking while Adarsh ensured singles and doubles were converted and score board was ticking. They put on a partnership of 81 runs for the 4th wicket before Adarsh unfortunately was dismissed via a run out. Adarsh was dismissed for 32 runs in 50 balls and his innings included 3 boundaries. Fahed on the other end remained unbeaten on 49 of 48 balls and his innings included 5 boundaries and 1 six. A target of 101 was set for Drakon Force to chase. For Drakon force Kedar was the best bowler on display as his figures read 2-15 in the 4 overs he bowled and Ronson too picked up a wicket. All other bowlers were wicket less.

Drakon Force did not have a great start as their skipper Lennold who came to open the innings along with Kaushal was dismissed in the 2nd over. But Kaushal was unaffected with the early wicket and he began playing some terrific shots and many of them found the boundary lines. Kedar too was not looking at his best with the bat and could contribute only 7 runs before being dismissed. In came Sudarshan who had opened with Kaushal in their previous match against TT. Kaushal continued his assault on TT bowlers and reached his fifty in 32 deliveries. By the time he reached his fifty Drakon Force was just few runs away from the target. Sudarshan who gave excellent support to Kaushal was dismissed for 15 runs and finally a partnership which yielded 66 runs was ended and Drakon Force were at 99, 2 runs short of a famous win. Soon Kaushal hit the winning runs and ensured a win for Drakon force in the 12th over.  Kaushal remained unbeaten on 53 runs of 36 deliveries and his innings included 2 sixes and 7 boundaries. A win within 12.5 overs ensured Drakon Force a place in Masters Group while TT ended up in Do-or-die group. For TT, Rana and Soyeb picked up a wicket each while rest of the bowlers remained wicket-less.

Kaushal Mohan was declared Man of the Match for his quickfire 50 which enabled Drakon Force to reach Masters Group.

Ravee Kumar shines as Assault Ayyannars win

Skipper Ravee Kumar's superb innings of 50 runs and a brilliant bowling display from Ayyannars bowlers ensured a easy win for Ayyannars against Rising Phoenix the team led by Raghu. Also it was a must win situation for Ayyannars as they had lost their previous encounter with Rising Phoenix and they needed to win it convincingly if they had to advance to Masters Group.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Ayyannars got off to a very good start as Ravee and Chethan Rachit looked in good touch. They together put up a partnership of 42 runs for the first wicket before Chethan R was dismissed for 22 runs. At the fall of 1st wicket Karthik G joined Ravee and the duo put on a 43 run partnership for the 2nd wicket. It was the 2nd 40+ partnership of Ayyannars innings and just when everything seemed going Ayyannars way Rising Phoenix bowler Ravi Kiran struck by dismissing Karthik G. And Ravi Kiran removed 2 more Ayyannars batsmen in the same over to put Ayyananrs in trouble. Thereafter Ayyannars kept on losing wickets regularly, Ravee Kumar too was dismissed soon after his fifty and Ayyannars were all out for 135 runs. Ravee Kumar's innings of 50 runs in 60 balls included 4 boundaries. Ravi Kiran was the most impressive Rising Phoenix bowler as he finished with figures of 4-26 in 4 overs. Sumeet Bagewadi finished with figures of 2-14 while Kranthi picked up a wicket too.

Rising Phoenix got off to a disastrous start when Ravi Kiran, Phoenix opener who produced a match winning knock in their previous match was dismissed for just 1 run. Akash Shenvi the other opener of Rising Phoenix looked in great touch, but it was a one man battle as no Phoenix batsmen could give him any sort of support at the other end. After a lone battle Akash was dismissed for 45 runs of 37 balls, his innings included 6 fours and a six. Rising Phoenix were allout for 81 and this 54 runs victory helped Ayyannars to enter the Masters Group. His victims included danger man Ravi Kiran and Phoenix skipper Raghu. Karthik G also picked up 3 wickets in the 4 overs he bowled.
