BSL 4: Raghuraman's super knock helps Centaurs prevail over Sphinx Samaraveeras

It was a must win game for the Sphinx Samaraveeras to keep their hopes alive in the tournament whereas the Centaurs were coming back from their victory against Ravana Sena.

In the absence of Bharath S the Centaurs skipper , the Centaurs were led by the wily old fox Prashant Menon.

The Centaurs won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a new opening combination for the Centaurs as it was Raghuraman who joined regular opener Avinash and both played themselves in on a tricky pitch and helped the Centaurs get a great start. Infact it was the best start for the Centaursand was going strong. The Sphinx captain Dilip tried his ace bowlers to get him a wicket. But the magic of Ankit, Rakesh, Karthik, or Bharat J didn't work. The Sphinx were able to keep a check on the run rate with some tight bowling by the spinners Nikhil and Bharat J. In search of the wicket, Dilip bought him self in and was eventually successful in breaking the 85 run first wicket partnership as he dismissed Avinash. Soon Raghuraman too was dismissed after getting to his first 50 of the tournament. Later. Nikhil Sandeep was introduced back into the attack and he picked up couple of wickets. Finally The Centaurs ended up with 132 runs on the board. As far as Samaraveeras bowling was concerned, Nikhil was the most impressive Samaraveeras bowler as he picked up 3 wickets while Dilip picked 1 wicket.

In the chase, the Sphinx got off to a disastrous start losing a heap of wickets within the power play, losing the entire middle order. Dilip was holding one end and was constantly getting those boundaries but an unwanted run out caused his downfall and was dismissed for 21 runs. Soon Samaraveeras were bowled out and it was the second consecutive victory for Centaurs. For Centaurs Ram Bhatt was the most lethal bowler as he picked 3 wickets while Gaurav and Suresh picked 2 wickets each.

Raghuraman was adjudged as the Man of the match for his crucial fifty.

With this win, the Centaurs strengthened their position in the masters group and also ensured that the Sphinx campaign ended in this edition of the BSL with a consolation game pending.
