On song Bhargav Vishal scalps six as Griffin Warriors register their first win of BSL 4
What promised to be an exciting game of cricket turned out to be a one-sided affair through and through. Griffin Warriors went into this game desperately needing a win to keep their hopes alive of making it to the next round. Zombie Killers just needed a win to ensure they were well placed to move to the next round. By the end of the game, the tables had completely turned around. Griffin Warriors not only secured two points from the game but also managed to go from a negative run rate of -2.6115 to a healthy run rate of 0.3387 in one game. Such was the humiliating defeat that Zombie Killers suffered at the hands of Griffin Warriors.

Things started off well for Zombie Killers with their Captain winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Zombie Killers pinned their hopes on their seam attack to exploit the overcast conditions but underestimated the role that dew was about to play. A wet ball meant that the seamers could not do much with the ball and batsman found it easy with the ball coming on to the bat nicely. Zombie Killers’ opening bowler, Shishir, did find success in the very first over by removing Nav Krishna for a duck, with a peach of a delivery that swung in and took the opener’s off stump, but that is all the celebration that Zombie Killers could muster in the day.
In walked Nikhil Virupakshi at number three and took the attack to the opposition right from the very first ball. He scored a quickfire 29 of 20 balls which included 5 hits to the fence, but that was not the gravest damage he caused. At the receiving end of one of his fiercest hits was the Zombie Killers captain Raushan Anand. Raushan suffered a dislocated thumb and a fracture when he attempted to take a catch. This meant that Killers were both a bowler and a batsman short for the rest of the game.
Nikhil’s blistering innings was followed by a much more composed and much-needed innings by Suraj Hegde. Suraj scored 53 runs from 38 balls, which included four boundaries and a six. Suraj was not only able to stabilize the innings but was also able to accelerate at the death and helped his team score a competitive total of 119. Suraj has been in superb form this BSL on a pitch where some of the more established batsmen have not been able to capitalize.
With a target of 120, Zombie Killers would have known that it is a tough task but what unfolded was worse than their worst nightmare. That Nightmare was called Bhargav Vishal. It’s a sorry tale that they would soon like to forget. Wasim Basha started off the innings positively scoring nine runs from the first over. Bhargav Vishal came on to bowl the second over and wreaked havoc on the Zombie Killers. He first dismissed Shishir off the very first ball and followed it up by picking up Suhas of the next ball. He then bowled a wide but followed it up with a beautiful delivery next ball to send Vivek packing. He then dismissed Bhanu of the fourth ball to pick up four wickets of four legal deliveries. By the end of the over, the match was all but over for the Zombie Killers. He then picked up 2 more wickets to take his tally to six. It was a Dream Spell for Bhargav Vishal, the lanky Medium pacer coming back from injury didn’t have a great record with the ball before this innings.
The Zombie Killers bundled out within 9 overs for a meager total of 36. When the second highest scorer for your team is the extras gifted to you by the opposition, there is very little you can complain about and absolutely don’t deserve to win. Zombie killers found this out the hard way. Bhargav Vishal was adjudged the man of the match for his brilliant performance wherein he bowled four overs for eleven runs and picked up six wickets. This win has given Griffin Warriors a fantastic chance to qualify for the semis.
ZK Captain, Raushan Anand, who suffered a injury while attempting a catch off Nikhil was taken to the hospital, he has suffered a dislocation and fracture on his thumb. He is supposed to undergo an operation this week. Team BCG wishes him a speedy recovery.
