Bengaluru Fc win AFC cup 2017 campaign opener !!!

Sunil Chhetri scored the all important winner for Bengaluru FC as they managed to beat Mohun Bagan SC 2-1 in their AFC Cup 2017 campaign opener.

Although it was the away side Mohun Bagan Sc which scored the opener courtesy Katsumi Yusa’s penalty,  BFC recovered brilliantly thanks to goals from defender Sandesh Jhingan and  skipper Chhetri.
Mohun Bagan had held the BFC to a 0-0 draw in the I-league game on Saturday.
Just before the end of 1st half, the ever impressive Bagan forward Sony Norde made a run into the box, and was brought down by Jhingan. Yusa stepped up and converted from the spot with ease.
Ten minutes into the second half, Bagan suffered a huge setback when Yusa left the field with an injured shin. BFC began to find its momentum at this point of time, and levelled things through a terrific set-piece play.
Australian Cameron Watson floated in a corner to the edge of the box, which eluded the crowd near the goal-line. Defender Jhingan sprinted forward and struck a surprise low volley, which defeated the Bagan custodian.
Just a short while later, Chhetri found the mark from a free-kick, sending the home crowd into a tizzy. The India international was more relieved than overjoyed with the timely goal.
This result came as a big relief for the Bengaluru side and its fans after a terrible run in the I-League. And the fans will be hoping this win to be the start of turning things around.
The result: Bengaluru FC 2 (Sandesh Jhingan 51, Sunil Chhetri 57) bt Mohun Bagan 1 (Katsumi Yusa 36).
